SHILLONG: The abattoir at Mawlai Mawroh is finally complete and ready for inauguration. This was informed by Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Deborah Marak here on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters Marak said that the date of inauguration of the slaughter house would be fixed after consultation with the Chief Minister.
The abattoir project has seen several delays, and its completion is expected to ensure that Shillongites have access to clean and hygienic meat.
The abattoir has been constructed at a cost of Rs.22 crore by the Rapsang Group of Companies, Shillong, in collaboration with Real Growth Company, Chennai.
The State government has already notified members of a management committee which will oversee the operations of the slaughter house at Mawlai Mawiong.
The abattoir will have a capacity of slaughtering 160 large animals, 240 pigs and 240 small animals (goats) each day.
Marak will visit the site on Thursday to take first hand appraisal of the project.
