NONGTOIN: Even though the coal mine owners in Meghalaya got a relief from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which extended the time for payment of royalty of already extracted coal to February 15, coal traders and mine owners from Shallang area have complained that they have been disadvantaged by the delay in opening of the weigh bridge at Mawpun, West Khasi Hills by the Directorate of Mineral Resources thus restricting them from transporting extracted coal.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, the coal traders of Shallang said that they have already paid the Royalty but are still waiting “for the bridge to open”.
“When we spoke to the officer in charge, DMR, West Khasi Hills we were informed that they are yet to receive any order in this regard (opening of the bridge) from the higher authorities,” a coal trader said.
The coal traders, meanwhile, demanded the immediate opening of the weigh bridge.
