Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Assam slated for Tuesday will address a rally of tribal communities at Kokrajhar in Bodoland areas of Assam besides attending two other programmes in Guwahati including a youth rally organized by the BJP.
On the eve of Modi’s visit the BJP has finalised poll alliance with regional Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), a regional political party based in Bodo heartland in Assam and is in seat of power in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Council (BTC).
The BPF has agreed to forge alliance with BJP for the next Assembly election in the state only after the BJP promised a Rs 1000 crore special development package from the central government for the Bodoland areas of Assam to be released over the next three years.
The BPF leaders and the state BJP leaders led by president Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting at the residence of the BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday to seal the alliance for Assembly polls in Assam.
The PM’s visit Kokrajhar in Assam is expected to give a boost to the new ties with the BPF by addressing a rally of different ethnic communities at Kokrajhar in Bodoland of Assam.
The rally is being organized under the aegis of the BPF.
The BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary who is also the chief executive member of the BTC, informed that the BPF decided to forge pol alliance with the BJP after the ruling party in the Centre accepted its demand for a development package worth Rs 1000 crore to Bodoland areas.
Mohilary further said despite the alliance with the BJP , the BPF will contest in all the 12 Assembly segments within the BTC area and four other seats outside the BTC areas.
That means the BJP will not be able to field any candidates in these 16 assembly segments in Assam during polls.
“The BJP on its own will not win more than 50 seats in 126-member Assam assembly. The BPF will at least 12 seats and the BJP and BPF together will form the next government in Assam after the poll,” Mohilary said.
