Residents hold peace rally at Mawshynrut

NONGSTOIN: The people of Mawshynrut area under the banner of Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong, Riangdo area on Thursday unanimously rallied for peace to be a permanent fixture at Mawshynrut area.
The peace cry, voiced out by the Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong was seconded by residents of the region with more than 6,000 people echoing their voices along with slogans to ask for a peaceful Mawshynrut area once again.
Mawshynrut has been witnessing a pitiful plight at the hands of various militant outfits and terrorist groups which have disrupted the normal day-to-day functioning of the residents leading to unrest and panic in the environment.
Hence, the people of Mawshynrut area under the banner of Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong decided to voice in unanimity for justice.
The rally, started from Riangdo Market upto Mawdonglang playground followed by a public meeting.
“Given the current situation and the absolute need for peace within the region, we have to ensure participation of one and all for peace within the region,” Phingly Rongrin said during the meeting.
Sordar of Riangkang, P.Thongni addressing the public meeting said, “We have suffered a lot from the threat of militants and other group of dacoits who kidnap and send demand notes to every local trader and it is the time to fight against all evils prevalent in our society”.
M. Mawsor, MDC said, ” To fight against all evils in the society, we should work together without  any communal feelings or religious conflict and we can respect each other, can work together, build friendship, so that we will again bring back the peace and harmony in our area.
He also said that more awareness programme for youths will have to be organized to prevent them from falling prey to militants.
S. Nongtnger, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, while addressing at a huge gathering appreciated the efforts of the Synjuk for and also praised the Khasi and Garo people for their participation and also admired their bravery for defying the action and the rise of militancy in the area. He also appealed to every existing dacoits group  to stop harassing and kidnapping the innocent people and said that their illegal activities in the area have affected the lives of normal people.
He also urged the local people to cooperate and work together to fight against militancy in bringing peace in the area.
He also assured that through cooperation between police and the people of the area, normalcy will return into the area.
