Guwahati: With no charismatic leader of nature stature in its ranks, Assam state BJP is apparently banking heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to woo voters for the arty in poll-bound Assam.
The state BJP president and Union minister of state for sports and youth affairs Sarbananda Sonowal despite his tall standing among people in eastern Assam, is virtually no match for Congress’ veteran politician and chief minister Tarun Gogoi in respect of poll strategy-formulation and in inherent appeal to the common people.
BJP has already found 82-year-old Gogoi a hard nut to crack, who has led Congress to victories in three consecutive Assembly polls since 2011.
Gogoi has already sensed that BJP is banking on Modi and has ,therefore, gone all out to attack the Modi-led government in the Centre over ínjustices’ done to the state so far in respect of reducing the flow of Central funds and neglecting the burning problem of flood/erosion and illegal migration from Bangladesh. Gogoi has been very busy finding fault with
Modi’s speeches made in the state during January 19 visit. It was basically the nationwide Modi wave which had gripped Assam too, that saw BJP through in seven of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2014 general polls.
So, the BJP wants to relieve the Modi magic again in Assam before the Assembly polls too.
The busy Prime Minister who made a visit to the state on January 19, is scheduled to come to the state again on February 5 to address a series of public function and party meetings bedsides inaugurating the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati in the afternoon.
According to a senior state BJP leader, Modi will attend the 85th conference of Srimanta Sankar Sangha, a very influential vaishnavite cult with mass following in the state, at Sivasagar in eastern Assam after his arrival at Jorhat airport.
He will them address a rally of BJP workers from block level to district level at Moran Polo Club ground where BJP workers from Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts will participate besides the members of the public and party well-wishers.
The prime minister will inaugurate Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymer Limited (BPCL) at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh district on the same day.
The foundation of the over Rs 6000 crore project was laid way back in 2007 by the them Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Modi will them proceed to Guwahati to declare open the 12th South Asian Games.
Two union ministers, Dharmendra Pradhan and Ananth Kumar will accompany Modi during the trip to the state on February 5 next.
