Violators penalized on NH 40 in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Drivers of several public and private vehicles were on Friday penalized by the office of District Transport Officer, Ri Bhoi, for violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The DTO office conducted a surprise inspection at 20 Mile near the Toll Gate Plaza on NH 40 and detected several cases of vehicles with tainted glass which were in violation of the orders of the Supreme Court of India and the State govt. Many drivers were penalized under Section 220 for not wearing seat belts, Section 129 for not wearing helmets, Section 177 for violating the restriction on use of phones and smoking while driving, Section 185 for drunken driving, Section 194 for overloading of passengers and goods and Section 181 for non availability of driving license.
The DTO office informed that a total fine of Rs.59,900 was realized from the surprise inspection, and added that the office would continue with the inspection in the coming days for the safety of the public.
