Young Voters’ Festival held in South West Garo Hills

Ampati: The Young Voters’ Festival, 2016 was organized in South West Garo Hills with various programmes and competitions across the district on Friday in the run up to the National Voters’ Day, which was participated by the youths and students from various schools and colleges with much enthusiasm despite the cold and foggy weather.
At Ampati, the festival was held in Ampati Government Higher Secondary School, where quiz, essay writing, slogan writing and drawing competitions were organized for the students. A ‘selfie’ booth and a photo gallery were also put up on the occasion.
Addl. Deputy Commissioner (Election), Ampati, H.D.B. Sangma, ADC, Ampati, Mary T. Sangma, District School Education Officer, S.D. Sangma and Principal, Ampati Govt H.S. School, C.J. Sangma were among other officials and teachers from the district who joined the young voters during the festival, while Quiz Master Sanjib Das conducted the quiz competition before the lively audience.
A gathering of the booth level officers (BLOs) was also held during the day wherein the best BLO each from the three constituencies was felicitated. The three selected as best BLOs were Bigeorge Ch. Sangma from Ampati constituency, Tejipson Marak from Mahendraganj constituency and Purnojoy Hajong from Salmanpara constituency. They were awarded a remuneration of Rs.3000 each as a mark of appreciation for their hard work.
In keeping with the theme for this year’s National Voters’ Day, ‘Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’, sports for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were organized at the block-level celebrations at Kongpara under Betasing block and Boldamgre under Zikzak block besides other competitions for the students. Zikzak BDO Reuben Ch. Momin and Betasing BDO Albert G. Momin led the celebrations in their respective blocks.
