SHILLONG: Following a request by the chiefs of Hima Mylliem to convene a general durbar, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has extended 45 days to the Executive Dorbar of the Hima to convene a meeting under the leadership of Paiem Latho Manik Syiem following the expiry of the deadline on January 24.
It may be reminded that 6 Myntris of Hima Mylliem has filed a complaint against Latho Manik Syiem and Thwelson Manik Syiem, Deputy Syiem of Mylliem for not convening a general durbar as per practice of the Hima Mylliem and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Syiem, Deputy Syiem, Electors and Rangbah Shnong of Mylliem Syiemship) Act 2007.
Speaking to reporters, the CEM, KHADC P.N Syiem after taking note of the illness of the Syiem, however, the KHADC has ordered the Deputy Syiem to convene the meeting to which the Deputy Syiem sought the extension of days citing ill-health.
“The general meeting has to be convened within the 45 days limit, failing which action will be taken,” PN Syiem, CEM KHADC said.
On the other hand, 29 Myntris met the CEM on Monday alleging that they were kept in the dark over the 45 days extension.
“Our objective to meet the CEM is to reveal to him the intention of some Myntri of the Executive Dorbar Hima Mylliem to illegally lease a plot of land at Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) from 2022. Bara Bazaar should remain as it is. We request the CEM to not agree to the proposal,” Myntri C Kharkongor said.
The myntri also alleged that they are oblivious to certain affairs of the Hima.
“It was only after we met the CEM that we were informed of the 45 days deadline, MB Kharlukhi, Myntri in charge of Finance has informed us but we did not receive any order yet. And we are surprised to hear that Deputy Syiem is unwell, as we see him around all the time,” Myntri J Nongkhlaw said.
“If both (the Syiem and Deputy Syiem) are not keeping well then they should hold elections to appoint a new Syiem,” Nongkhlaw added.
