SCA postpones all league matches with immediate effect
Shillong: The Shillong Cricket  Association has postponed all league matches with immediate effect till further notice because of the upcoming South Asian Games at Shillong. Similarly, Cricket Academy will be closed and reopen on February 20.
U-12 EKH block football tourney to commence in Feb
Shillong: The office of the district sports officer, East Khasi Hills, will conduct chief minister’s block level U-12 football tournament for boys and girls in Pynursla, Khat-ar-shnong, Mawryngkneng, Mawkynrew, Shella, Mylliem, Mawsynram and Mawphlang. The tentative date for the tournament to begin is February 11 and participants born on or after May 1, 2004 are eligible to participate in the event. For detailed information regarding the tournament, teams are requested to contact the office of the district sports officer, East Khasi Hills, at J N sports complex in Polo during office hours.
Ganguly to miss Libra Legends’ opener in MCL
Dubai: Bogged down by a back spasm, former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to miss Libra Legends’ first match of the inaugural Master Cricket League (MCL), starting here on Thursday. Ganguly was to lead Legends in the T20 tournament but had to pull out after doctors advised him rest after suffering a back spasm during a practice game some days ago, reports gulfnews.com on Wednesday. However, according to report, the 43-year-old will be in the city cheering his team for the first game on Thursday. Australian cricketer Brad Hogg who attended the captain’s press conference for the Legends said Ganguly would be joining the team soon.  (IANS)
Warner wins Allan Border medal
Melbourne: Australia’s swashbuckling batsman David Warner was given the Allan Border Medal for being the most outstanding cricketer and was also adjudged to be the best Test player of the year at a glittering award ceremony here on Wednesday. Hard-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell was named the One-Day International (ODI) player of the year. Warner won the prestigious Allan Border medal for the first time. Warner (30 votes) polled six more than Test skipper Steve Smith (24 votes) with pacer Mitchell Starc placed third with 18 votes in the Test player of the Year category. (IANS)
