SHILLONG: The State Government will inaugurate 160 units of the Nongmynsong housing complex on February 14. Informing this here on Thursday, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the Government wants to give the units as a “gift of love” to the people on Valentine’s Day.
According to Lyngdoh, post the inauguration, construction would begin for the remaining 90 units, the target for completion of which would be December this year.
The project has gone through several ups and downs and initially it was Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL) which was assigned the work for implementing it. Later, the State Government terminated HPL’s contract and Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) was given the responsibility of completing the construction of the abandoned housing project under JNNURM in Nongmynsong on its own.
Reacting to a query Lyngdoh informed that the list of beneficiaries was also sent to the Union Government. According to Lyngdoh, the beneficiaries of the project are people from Nongmynsong and nearby areas besides Laitumkhrah.
