Hotel to compensate on sale of mineral water for excess amount

Thane: Thane District Consumer Redressel Forum has held that sale of any product above its MRP is deficiency in services and ordered a Lodge from the city not only to refund the excess charged amount to the complainant but also pay a sum of Rs 2000 towards legal expenses.
The forum president Sneha Mhatre and members Madhuri Vishwarupe and N D Kadam in their order held that charging of excess amount of a product than the printed MRP itself is considered as deficiency in services. They also ordered that the lodge owner should make the payment of Rs 2,000 by March 15, 2016 else pay interest at 9 per cent till realisation.
The forum also ordered refund of the excess amount of Rs 51 charged for the three Bisleri bottles purchased by the complainant from the lodge.
The complainant M G Bhagat a resident of Vasai in his complaint stated that on September 12, 2009 he had purchased three Bisleri Mineral water bottles from the counter of the Divyar International Hotel, situated at Charai in Thane city.
He was charged Rs 30 each for the bottle and paid a total amount of Rs 90 and obtained the receipt for the same. (PTI)
