SHILLONG: The HYC  has alleged that owners of sawmills at Jaintia Hills mostly from the Jaintia tribe have practiced benami as the pressure group claimed that most of sawmills are run by non-tribals under the name of the local owners at the industrial estate at Khliehtyrshi and other parts of Jaintia hills.
In this connection, the organization has condemned the act of benami in the state where unemployment is a huge problem and has requested the owners to intercept the practice of benami and  remove the non-tribals within 30days, failing which the organization will take steps by approaching higher authorities and urged the authorities to cancel the license of the sawmills.
