Assam BJP leader threatened on eve of Modi’s visit

Guwahati: On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam to inauguate the South Asian Games besides atteding 3 other functions on Friday, a newly-formed militant group ,Moran Tiger Force (MTF) has threatened a BJP leader from tea tribe community and opened indiscriminate fire targeting 2 persons from the community including  former MLA in separate incidents in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam.
The militants opened fire at the residence of former MLA, Durga Bhumij at Doomdooma town and also shot at a shop keeper at Digboi town in Tinsukia district on Wednesday before issuing threat to Assam state BJP’s tea morcha’s president Sanjay Kishan, prospective poll candidate of the party from Tinsukia LAC in eastern Assam.Sanjay Kishan has been threatened by the MTF with dire consequences in case he and other tea tribe leaders of the party contest election from eastern Assam constituencies. The BJP leader has lodged a complaint with the police over the threat issued to him by this newly-formed militant group from Moran community.
He said, “Since the militant group is issuing treat to tea tribe community leaders including me barring us from contesting polls, it is clear that they are working on behalf of certain political force which wants to destroy the age-old harmonious con-existence of the tea tribe people and Moran community….”He demanded Congress government and police to launch a crackdown on  MTF to restore confidence of the tea tribe people. Meanwhile, thousands of tea tribe community people stormed the streets of bandh-hit Tinsukia town on Thursday to demand apprehension of culprits attacking the community.
