SHILLONG: The hiccups in the running of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) have delayed the commercial production of cement, though several deadlines were fixed in the past.
Though the MCCL was commissioned on January 3, commercial production of cement is yet to start as the machines installed in the dry process plant are still facing hiccups.
MCCL Managing Director Sanjay Goyal told reporters on Monday that efforts were on to rectify the hiccups.
Once the production is stabilized, the output will be around 300 MT cement daily.
It was from August 2014 that the actual works related to the modernization of MCCL started, though the modernization plan has been pending for execution since 2007-08.
Another concern is that there is no captive power plant for the MCCL which will affect the production once power goes off.
Sources said that following the ban on coal, the state government will go for coal linkage with Assam , and the Centre has already approved the proposal.
While the 480 employees are yet to get salary for almost 12 months, over 140 employees have opted for voluntary retirement scheme, which is yet to be approved by the state cabinet as the financial burden will be around Rs 25 crore.
