Telangana lawmaker’s driver dies in accidental shooting
Hyderabad: The driver of a Telangana legislator died when a gun went off under suspicious circumstances here on Tuesday, police said. The accident occurred in MLA Quarters in Hyderguda. Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator C. Madan Reddy’s driver Akbar died on the spot when the gun belonging to gunman Ravindra went off. Police have not come out with details as how the firing took place. According to one version, the legislator’s gunman had kept his gun and the driver picked it up to have a look when it accidentally went off, while another says the driver committed suicide. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamalasan Reddy visited the scene. Police were questioning the gunman. (IANS)
Boy electrocuted in Ramban, locals block highway in protest
Ramban (JK): A 16-year-old boy was today electrocuted to death in Brar Gadi village of the district, following which locals blocked the Jammu-Sringar National Highway, protesting against the alleged negligence of the state power department. The boy, Riyaz Ahmed Lone, was killed and four others received burn injuries this morning due to electrocution when they reportedly touched electric appliances during a power surge, a police official said. The incident occurred allegedly after the power department increased the electricity supply in domestic lines to 440 Volts from the normal 220 Volts. Later, the residents came out on roads and blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for over two hours in protest against the power department, he said. The protestors were pacified only after senior officers from the police and district administration intervened and assured them of action against the guilty, the official said. A case has also been registered and investigation initiated, he said.  (PTI)
Man held with live bullets
New Delhi: A man was arrested at Delhi airport after nine live bullets were found in his baggage, officials said. On February 14, security personnel at Indira Gandhi International Airport detected the .325 calibre bullets in the baggage of R Yadav, who was supposed to take a flight to Mumbai. Carrying live bullets without proper documents is illegal under civil aviation rules, they said. Yadav was later handed over to Delhi Police, which booked him under various provisions of the Arms Act. (PTI)
Over 67K engaged in EGS works in drought-hit Marathwada region
Aurangabad: Over 67,000 people are engaged in different types of works under the Employment Gurantee Scheme (EGS) in eight districts of the backward Marathwada region, which is reeling under drought for the fourth consecutive year. At present, 67,269 workers are engaged in 11,356 types of works, including roads, irrigation and drought related works, under EGS in the region, sources in the Divisional office here today said. Most of these workers are engaged in the badly affected districts of Latur, Osmanabad and Beed. The highest 13,991 workers are engaged on 1,129 EGS works in Latur district, followed by Beed with 13,228 workers on 670 works and Osmanabad with 10,546 workers on 642 works. While, the least of 1,645 workers are engaged in 190 works at Aurangabad. Earlier, only farmless workers used to take part in the EGS works, but this year, several small landholding farmers from the region, who lost both the kharif and rabbi crops due to scarcity of water, land infertility and other reasons, are also involved in the EGS works to earn their livelihood, they added. Cop arrested for making video clip of woman colleague
Jammu: A head constable of Jammu and Kashmir police has been arrested for allegedly shooting a nude video of a woman colleague when she was taking a shower in a hotel in Jammu, police said. Head Constable Mohammad Ramzan, posted in the security wing of the Civil Secretariat in Jammu, was arrested after a woman lodged a complaint that he filmed her when she was taking a shower in her hotel bathroom where she has been provided accommodation by her office, a police officer said. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she found Ramzan, who was staying in a room adjacent to hers, was filming her with his mobile phone, he said. The officer said a case was registered at police station Nowabad. “The charge sheet against the accused will be filed in the court tomorrow. We have confiscated his phone which contains the objectionable video clip,” he said. (PTI)

Meerut: Amidst a raging debate over treason and patriotism in the wake of the JNU row, rightwing Hindu outfit the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha on Tuesday said Nathuram Godse, who had killed Mahatma Gandhi, was a “great patriot”. “Nathuram Godse was a thinker, philosopher, learned writer and a great patriot. He was, he is and he will remain so,” the outfit’s national vice president Ashok Kumar Sharma said in a release here. (PTI)
