SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has asked Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to apologize to the driver of the tourist vehicle who had hit his vehicle, for implicating him under Section 307 IPC (attempt to murder) in a normal accident case.
In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, the HYC demanded apology from the chief minister for causing mental and physical harassment to the driver and his family.
The pressure group also slammed the police for its shoddy handling of the case and added that the incident has raised doubt about the police investigation skills and has also exposed their incompetency.
“We want to know whether the driver of the tourist taxi attempted to murder the chief minister or if the chief minister’s driver attempted to murder the passengers in the tourist vehicle,” HYC asked.
The pressure group also pointed out that in the case of late police officer P.J. Marbaniang, the Meghalaya police was in a hurry to conclude that it was a case of suicide even though it was a bullet from the back that had killed him.
