Non-listed marginalised families can contact fair price shops, DC’s Office to get enlisted: DC
SHILLONG: Non-listed marginalized families who have not been able to avail the benefits of the National Food Security Scheme launched in Meghalaya this month can now come forward and get enrolled for new cards from the Deputy Commissioner’s office or from their respective Fair Price shops to avail the benefits of the scheme.
This was informed by east Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar to a delegation of KSU members who raised the issue of local inhabitants being deprived of the benefits of the scheme that was rolled out by the State Government recently.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday after the meeting, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said, “The list of beneficiaries was marked from the data available in the 2011 Socio-Economic Census. The census monitors marginalized households enabling the families to avail themselves of the benefits of the schemes.”
He added that the Union will suggest to the government to implement a new census data for masses specifically for schemes.
The deputy commissioner also allayed confusions prevailing as to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) stating that people whose names were not included in the new list can still avail the facilities of the scheme and new forms for enrolment will be distributed shortly.
“The deputy commissioner has informed that the households who already have ration cards can get their quota of rice despite the distribution of new forms,” Jyrwa said.
Speaking on the new regulation where families whose members hold government jobs are no longer entitled to hold ration cards, Jyrwa said there are families who have to provide for 5-7 members.
“As a union we will discuss the matter further with the government,” he added.
