SHILLONG:  The active intervention of police from Sadar PS helped in averting the crime against a girl student on Saturday.
According to police, a girl and three boys- all students from a college outskirts of city- were in an inebriated condition when they were looking for a room in a city hotel at night.
All the four students had gone to book a particular hotel where a rape incident involving a police personnel from the police station of Hima Mylliem at Barabzar reportedly took place recently.
Police said that after seeing the condition of the students, the hotel owner refused to provide any room.
Being suspicious, the passers-by informed the police about the matter and before the students could get into any other hotel, they were handed over to the college authorities by police after proper identification.
Police have urged the public to bring to the notice of the police any such incidents in future.
