SHILLONG:  The Division bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday took up a PIL where citizens were harassed for the purpose of obtaining certificate for birth or death.
Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and  Justice SR Sen in the order said that  the issues raised in this petition filed are of the harassment and prejudice suffered by the citizens for the purpose of obtaining the certificate for birth or death, particularly because of the omissions on the part of the hospital, health centre, maternity or nursing home or similar institutions in extending the requisite information to the Registrar concerned within time, which results in the applicant being driven to seek order from the Court or authentication from other persons /bodies unnecessarily.
Counsel for the petitioner has referred to the information under the Right to Information Act as received from the office of the Shillong Municipal Board  and submitted that admittedly there had been several cases where the requisite report were not sent by the Hospital concerned.
Senior Government Advocate appearing K Baruah, counsel prayed for time to complete their instructions and the time prayed for was allowed. The matter has been listed after four weeks as prayed.
