SHILLONG: With pressure groups from Garo Hills questioning the legislators who raised the issues related to holding GHADC polls in the Assembly, South Tura MLA John Leslee Sangma on Thursday said that Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma and Songsak MLA Nihim D Shira were not against the interests of pressure groups who were protesting against participation of non tribals in GHADC polls.
Earlier Leslee had said that he along with others was supporting the cause of the NGOs.
“Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma had only raised a supplementary question on how many ballot boxes returned empty during the GHADC elections to which the concerned minister replied ‘three’ and his question was that there was something wrong in the election process and it should not be repeated,” Leslee said.
Leslee further said that Songsak MLA Nihim D Shira had only raised a question as to the investigation against the anti social elements involved in derailing the struggle of the people for the right path.
“We will like to remind the NGOs that just as they have the right to use their freedom of speech, we also as legislators have the right to raise questions in the Assembly and it is our job to do so for the welfare of the people,” Leslee said.
