SHILLONG:  UDP legislator Titosstarwell Chyne has asked the state government to take steps to reclaim government lands in and around city illegally occupied by individuals.
Chyne, while moving a motion in the Assembly in this regard on Thursday said that a notice was issued by the Deputy Commissioner on April 20, 2015 to take possession of the land measuring 7.879 acres situated at Kenche’s Trace, Maxwellton Estate for construction of government buildings or quarters.
Though the government was to take over the land, the notice of taking over the land was quashed by the High Court.
The legislator wanted to know whether the government made any appeal against the order of the High Court.
He reminded that in 1990s, the foundation stone for Raid Laban College was laid on the land, but the occupants filed a case. The government had even prepared an award to be given to the residents, he added.
