SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Wednesday adjourned the matter pertaining to closure of Assam Rifles Public School and listed the matter for hearing on Thursday.
The High Court order said that rejoinder affidavit filed by the petitioners was taken on record.
Another affidavit has been filed by respondent (Director General, Assam Rifles) on Wednesday indicating the efforts as being made by him and by the other bodies/authorities concerned with the management of the school in question i.e., Assam Rifles Public School, to find workable solution to the existing impasse so that closure of the school could be avoided.
It is, inter alia, indicated in the affidavit that as a last measure, the deponent has again directed the Patron of the School (ADG AR) to hold a meeting with the present petitioners and parents of the wards of the school and representative of the NEC on March 30 and 31, respectively to try and come to a solution to this entire impasse so that the decision of the Board of Governors can be reviewed and the school be kept running.”
The order said that the counsel for the petitioner has attempted to submit that the time is ticking by and tomorrow is the last date before operation of the impugned orders dated 30.12.2015 but this Court was of the view that looking to the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case and efforts indicated in the affidavit of the Director General filed on Wednesday, it would be appropriate to extend yet another chance to the respondents to find a workable and concrete solution.
“It is informed that the Director of NEC has also been invited for this meeting. It is further informed that the meeting with parents and/or their representatives is likely to be held tomorrow (Thursday) in the morning session,” the order said.
