SHILLONG: A large fleet of newly procured JNNURM buses which were bought recently out of the additional 240 sanctioned buses are lying idle at a parking place at Nongmynsong.
A visit to the parking place reveals that more than 50 buses, both new and old ones, are lying idle at the place without being used.
When contacted, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the department is yet to call for tenders of the new buses which were procured by the State government recently.
The new buses were used only during the 12th South Asian Games to transport athletes and officials.
According to Lyngdoh, the department has prepared necessary papers and tenders would be called shortly.
As many as 38 out of the 120 old buses, are presently ‘beyond economical repair’.
