SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), central body along with its West and South West Khasi Hills units demanded the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) not to issue no objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of the two-lane Nongstoin- Mawthabah road.
Speaking to reporters, HYC president Peter Lawai said that the organization was not against developmental plans but opposed the road project sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport (MoRT) since its main “objective is to facilitate uranium mining in the State.”
Lawai also urged village heads, who supported the road construction, to ascertain the intentions behind the road project.
Meanwhile, KHADCCEM (Chief Executive Member)  PN Syiem, while speaking to reporters said, “A committee will be constituted by the PDF to examine the road project and a final decision on the issue will be reached at only after the views and concerns of all stakeholders are incorporated.”
