SHILLONG: The BJYM (BJP Youth Wing) Meghalaya on Thursday said that the relief measures initiated by the government to help the people affected by the April 5 cyclone were inadequate and not up-to-the mark.

In a statement issued to the press on Thursday, the BJP Touth Wing, Meghalaya said that it was found that although the district administration had tried its level best to provide assistance the families of the affected voctims, yet it was found that a lot of domains were left uncovered and were not satisfactory due to the fact that until April 7, no assistance was provided from the side of the  government to the affected families except for some food.
The BJYM asked the government to provide CGI sheet immediately to those households whose roofs were blown away.
The BJYM also urged the government to provide books, uniforms and other assistance as most of the affected families belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category and hence needed such assistance.
“The government should also constitute a special relief team who will be specialized to tackle such type of calamity, since natural calamities are frequently occurring, but the government is yet to be alert to such situation”, the statement added.
