Social Welfare Director visits mushroom poisoning victims

SHILLONG: Director of Social Welfare, HM Shangpliang, on Wednesday visited the patients who fell ill after eating wild mushroom recently and are currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital and Nazareth Hospital.
Shangpliang wished the patients speedy recovery and comforted those who have lost their near and dear ones in the tragedy.
He also appealed to people to be cautious and avoid eating some wild mushrooms.
Although, the doctors at Ganesh Das have discharged some patients, doctors at Civil Hospital are reluctant to allow the remaining ones to go lest the poison from the mushroom resurfaces to harm the patients.
One such case is that of Taiarlang Rapthap (14) who is admitted in the ICU at Nazareth Hospital.
The relatives said that he was fine on Monday, but things took turn a drastic turn when his body became swollen later and he had to be shifted to Nazareth Hospital. It may be reminded that nine members of family fell sick after consuming the mushroom and as many as five succumbed to the poison.
