SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar is awaiting a report from the PWD (buildings) before taking a call on whether to allow the authorities of St. Peter’s School to resume normal classes or not.
“I am awaiting the report and after that we will take a call on whether classes should be allowed to resume or not,” he said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, police have not been able to reach any conclusion on what led to the devastating fire that destroyed a considerable portion of the School. “We are still investigating the matter from all angles,” police said.
A major fire in the wee hours of Wednesday destroyed     the administrative and residential section of the 47 year old St. Peter’s School, a premier education institution in the city. No casualty was reported even though the damage is reported to be extensive.
When officials of the Education department were contacted for their opinion on accommodation of the affected students of the school, they stated that St. Peter’s is a purely private school and there is no word at the moment on whether the State government will intervene and provide accommodation to students to attend their classes.
“No one has approached us from the school so far,” the officials confirmed.
