More than 1 lakh dustbins to be distributed in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Central Government and the Asian Development Bank have ordered for a whopping one lakh four thousand dustbins to be distributed in non-urban areas for segregation of wastes at door step under the ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Informing this on Tuesday,  Asian Development Bank Community Development Specialist, said that the work order for the procurement of  dustbins had been distributed and the  distribution of dustbins  would start from June-July this year.
It may be mentioned that the  more than  one lakh  dustbins will be distributed among 49000 families  living in the non-urban areas of the city.
The initiative was launched by the Asian Development Bank in partnership with the State Government to promote segregation of waste at the doorstep of residents.
In Urban areas of the city,   dustbins have been distributed to as many as  31300  families in the capital city.
Reacting to a query, he informed that the scheme is being successfully implemented in several urban areas and  70-80  percent of people are successfully segregating  the wastes.
