HYC demands quick solution to border row

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) met the Executive Member in charge, Elaka, Lamphrang Blah on Thursday to demand a quick solution to the Meghalaya-Assam border row.
Speaking to reporters, HYC president Peter Lawai, said that the District Council being the custodian of lands within the Scheduled areas should direct the Hima, headmen, sordars of villages to present boundaries of their respective lands as there is a need for land records and land survey.
“The District Council should then compile these records and present it to the State Government which will take it up with Assam.”
“The District Council should also set up a record finding committee with the Elaka incharge as the Chairman, comprising of Syiem from various Hima, chiefs of villages,” he said.
The EM in charge Elaka assured the delegation that the record finding committee would be set up soon.
