SHILLONG: The Shillong Archdiocese of the Catholic Church on Sunday made a new inroad in spreading the gospel in the southern slopes of Indo-Bangladesh by establishing the Mother Teresa’s Parish at Nongshyrngan village in Pynursla area in East Khasi Hills.
The new parish is located about 63 kms from the state capital and about 14 kms from Pynursla Sub Divisional Headquarter.
Archbishop Rev. Dominic Jala handed over the charge of the newly created parish to Fr. Bajenstar Khongjee, who relinquished the post of Assistant Parish Priest of St. John’s Laban Parish at a concelebrated Holy Mass, where large number of faithful hailing from the adjacent villages of Pynursla and Shillong took part.
The new parish will cover the villages of Lympung Snian, Rimasar, Lum Wahniai, Lympung Shyrngan, Nongkyndah, Riwai, Nongtyngur, Nongthymmai, Nohwet, Nongsohphan, Nongeitniang, Mawshun, Siatbakon, Madan Lyntad, Mawshun, Nongshyrngan, Pynther, Pongtung, Wah Jarem and others.
Speaking at the concelebrated Mass, Jala exhorted the faithful to be an example of love and unity to others and urged the new parish priest, Fr. Khongjee to dedicate his service for the spiritual development of the faithful and well being of all the people residing in the area.
The new parish will continue to function from the school premises before the other infrastructures come up. The faithful termed the day as God’s blessing, as Pynursla area was lashed by heavy rain and strong winds for the last ten days, except on Sunday.
