3 in fray for May 16 Kanubari bypoll

Itanagar: Three candidates, including an Independent, have filed nominations for the May 16 bypoll to Kanubari constituency in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
All the three contestants submitted their papers today, the last day for filing nominations, Deputy Chief Electoral officer D J Bhattacharjee informed.
Sitting MLA Gabriel Denwang Wangsu filed his nomination as a Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) contestant while Jyae Wangsu submitted his papers as a Congress candidate and Wangrang Wangjen as an Independent, Bhattacharjee said.
The Election Commission on April 19 had announced bypoll to Kanubari constituency along with several other states. The notification was issued on April 22.
Scrutiny of papers would be held on April 30 while the last date of withdrawal of nominations is May 2 and counting of votes will take place on May 19.
The Kanubari seat fell vacant after its MLA Gabriel Denang Wangsu resigned.
BJP, which is extending outside support to the Kalikho Pul-led PPA government in the state which was installed on February 19 last after months of political turmoil, had initially announced fielding a candidate but later decided to extend support to the PPA. (PTI)
