SHILLONG: The CSWO has alleged that the fair price shop dealer in Lumdiengang village, Ri Bhoi district is charging Rs 5 per kg when the price for 1 kg rice according to the New Food Security Act is Rs 3 per kg.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday , CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the dealer claimed that the price of Rs 5 is to cover for the transportation.
Sugar is also being charged at the rate of Rs 22-25 per kg when the packed price is Rs 20 per kg.
It was also informed to the CSWO that a family from this village was given only 19 kg sugar but 21.1 kg is written in the ration card by the dealer of Lumdiengan fair price shop.
This dealer also went to the extent of telling the beneficiaries that they will have to pay Rs 10 lakh for his expenses if he is caught.
The CSWO insisted that action should be taken by the authorities especially against this dealer and authorities should pass strict orders on this, as this exploitation will affect the poor BPL families who are not being able to oppose the anomalies for fear of losing out on their ration.
