NGT dismisses plea on royalty date extension

SHILLONG: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday dismissed two applications filed by the State coordination Committee  and Ka Hima Nongstoin Land Owners’ Association seeking extension of the time for the payment of royalty.
Informing this here on Tuesday from New Delhi, the State Government’s legal counsel Ranjan Mukherjee said that the next hearing on the matter will take place on July  7.
Before the next hearing, the State Government will have to submit a report on the exact quantity of coal lying  and its value besides how much of money has been collected under Meghalaya Environment Protection and Restoration Fund as per the direction of the NGT. The tribunal will take up the report during the next hearing.
The NGT, meanwhile, also replaced the court commissioners and now new court commissioners will be appointed who will monitor the  rat hole mining and   unscientific mining in the state.
