Fraud

The Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Shillong lodged a complaint on May 13 that an unincorporated body in the name of ‘Regional Rural Bank of India’ has been operating at Burbhoi, Byrnihat (RB), with L.S Rongpha as Chairman, without any license from the RBI, violating Sec. 45 S of RBI Act 1934 and the Meghalaya Protection of Interest Depositors Act.

Mentally unstable person held

One mentally unstable person was apprehended by one person for threatening the local residents with lethal objects in Ampati. On May 11, policemen from Betasing AD Camp apprehended the mentally unstable person Ranakor Koch from his residence at Gandhipara village under Ampati for threatening the local residents. He was sent for medical treatment and the matter is under enquiry.

ATM fraud

A woman lodged a complaint that on May 11, she received an anonymous phone call, wherein the caller identified himself as an employee of SBI and asked about her ATM details. On May 12 afternoon, when she went to withdraw money from an ATM Kiosk, she found that there was no money in her account.
