JOWAI: The KSU Mawryngkneng Circle has raised opposition against a liquor store at Pommura village in East Khasi Hills.
“The liquor store in the village is destroying the life of the youth and the society. It will bring unwanted elements and various kind of social evils in the society. Once a liquor store is set up in the village, several illegal stalls will also come up,” KSU president Shiningstar Kharbihkhiew said in a statement.
The KSU reminded that the proposed liquor store owner Ernest Mawrie had set up the liquor store way back in 2003 but due to non-cooperation from the previous headman and also from the officials of the Excise department, the protest raised by the KSU against the liquor store had remained unfruitful.
According to the KSU Mawryngkneng Circle, the Dorbar Shnong of Pommura in its        general meeting held on April 19 last decided to cancel the NOC issued to the liquor store owner.
Kharbihkhiew informed that the KSU will extend its full support to the Dorbar Shnong to remove the liquor store from the village.
