New Delhi/SHILLONG:  The newly-elected member of Parliament from Tura Lok Sabha seat Conrad K. Sangma will take oath in the next session of Parliament to be held in July. All the necessary formalities in this regard were completed on Monday.
Conrad, who met the BJP president Amit Shah in the national capital on Sunday, will be leaving for Guwahati on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government in Assam.
“It was a courtesy call,” Conrad told The Shillong Times on Monday adding that there was no discussion about allotment of any ministry to him during his meeting with Shah.
Following his landslide victory in Tura by-poll, it is speculated that Conrad will find a place in the Union cabinet since NPP, of which he is the president, is a part of the ruling NDA.
According to Conrad, it is the prerogative of the Prime Minister to allot him any ministry. “I shall serve the people of Garo Hills as well as Meghalaya and the Northeastern region as an MP,” he said.
Meanwhile, cutting across party lines leaders from all political parties met Conrad and congratulated him on his maiden entry into Parliament where his illustrious father Punro A Sangma was a popular and permanent figure. Vincent H Pala, who represents Shillong in Lok Sabha, was first to arrive at the 34 Abdul Kalam road residence of Conrad in Delhi to greet him. He was followed by N Iring, Congress MP from Arunachal Pradesh and former Union Minister.
