Workshop on Integrated water resources management held
SHILLONG: A one day workshop on ‘Integrated Water Resources Management’ was organized by the Water Resources Department, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Water Resources Development Agency, at the State Convention Centre on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh graced the inaugural function as chief guest, while P.B.O. Warjri, former Chief Secretary, was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The Deputy Chief Minister in his address pointed out the need to conserve and manage the available water resources in the state of Meghalaya since, even though the state receives high precipitation, the rainfall is limited to only five to six months in a year.

Lyngdoh highlighted the various steps taken by the state with respect to harvesting of water through different activities and programmes.
During the Technical Session, the Resource persons who delivered lectures on the different topics relating to Integrated Water Resources Management were engineers, scientists and experts from various organizations such as, India Water Foundation, Central Water Commission, NIH Roorkee, MWRRA (Maharashtra), NECTAR (New Delhi), SUJAALAM (Gujarat) and Jain Irrigation System Ltd.
The workshop was attended by officials and representatives from various departments and organizations such as Water Resources Department, Soil & Water Conservation Department, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, Central Ground Water Board, MePGCL, MBDA, MeWDA, NERIWALM, IIT Guwahati, ICARE and Meghalaya Water Foundation.
