Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed all his ministers to prepare work schedules for the next 100 days in respect of departments under their charge.
An official source informed that all the ministers have started consultation with department officials to prepare the 100-day work schedule as asked by the chief minister.
The work schedules will be submitted before the chief minister for his perusal. The new practice is apparently aimed at remove red-tapism, corruption and contractor raj associated with development works in the state.
Sonowal has also ordered to expedite the ongoing process of preparation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state in the wake of the process missing earlier deadlines for completion. The NRC updating process is being carried out in Assam with involvement of about 40,000 employees under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
The NRC of 1951 is being updated taking March 25, 1971 so that it becomes easier to detect illegal migrants coming to the state after March 25, 1971 which is mentioned as the cut-off date in Assam Accord for detection and deportation of illegal migrants from the state.
Sonowal, during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from various districts of the state, expressed that the NRC should be prepared in a foolproof and expeditious manner so that names of no genuine India citizens was left out.
He directed the Deputy Commissioners to dedicate at least two hours of their daily working hours for monitoring the NRC preparation process in their respective districts.
He also called upon the district administration officials, the police administration and other
concerned departments of the state to remain well-prepared for facing the challenge thrown up by the flood in the state during the coming monsoon season.
He instructed that flood-hit people must not be left at large by the administration at any cost and for that to happen preparation in advance is a must.
Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting that was scheduled for Monday afternoon was postponed as the chef minister had to leave for New Delhi to meet the President of India.
Sonowal is going to formally resign from his position of Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports.
