SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to reconsider his decision to avoid talks with the proscribed HNLC.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, HNYF general secretary Sadon K Blah said that at a time when the HNLC was yearning for talks, the State Government should come forward and take a mature step.
Blah also wanted to know if the decision to snub the HNLC was taken by the chief minister alone or the entire State Cabinet supported it.
The HNYF also accused the chief minister of being soft towards Garo militant outfits. “The chief minister argued that no militant groups would be invited for talks unless they renounce violence; but the same condition does not apply to Garo militant outfits.”
The HNLC, Blah felt, was neglected even though it declared a unilateral ceasefire two years ago.
He also pointed out that in the past few months the State Government under the leadership of Mukul Sangma has completed several peace pacts with various “militant outfits of the Achik” but the HNLC continues to be left out.
