SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government is looking for a rented building in Bengaluru to start the Meghalaya house for the time being in absence of any response on the part of the Karnataka government to provide land to Meghalaya.
H.M. Shangpliang , GAD Secretary informed that the State Government has already written to the Karnataka Government for a land to construct a Meghalaya House in Bengaluru but so far there has been no response from their end.
However, the State government is looking for a place where the Meghalaya House can be setup temporarily.
“We have seen some buildings but we are yet to finalize on the matter,” Shangpliang said.
The Government wants to own Meghalaya House in a proper place of Bengaluru and in close proximity with the airport and the railway station.
The idea of a Meghalaya House in the metropolitan city of Bengaluru was mooted after the large scale exodus of North Eastern people from there a few years back.
A Meghalaya House in Bengaluru would greatly benefit students and patients of the State who visit the city.
It may be mentioned that at the moment, New Delhi and Kolkata have two Meghalaya Houses each while Guwahati, Mumbai and Vellore have one each.
