Tripura police concerned over attempt to mobilise ex-militants

Agartala: Tripura police has expressed concern over the attempt by some agencies to lure away some of the surrendered extremists from their settled position for using them for different activities.
Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Arindam Nath on the basis of some intelligence report has warned the surrendered extremists not to fall in trap of any such agent.
He was speaking at an event to mark the inauguration of the vocational training programme for 9th batch of the surrendered extremists in Lachi Camp at Birchandra Manu under Shantirbazar sub-division yesterday.
As many as 38 former extremists, including women, will be given training in different trade.
He said about 70 extremists are still there in Bangladesh. About a half of them are permanently settled there and wives of some of them are in government services. The rest half are likely to come back to normal life shortly, he said.
He said total 1,435 former extremists has received vocational training in different trade and are now efficient.
At present all the former extremists are getting a onetime financial help of Rs 1.5 lakh and a proposal has been initiated to increase the amount. (UNI)
