NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has urged the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to scrap the implementation of the Solid & Liquid Resources Management initiative launched by the District Water & Sanitation Mission in collaboration with the District Administration.
The HYC members met the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday to apprise him of the objections the people had to the implementation of the initiative.
“The project is not applicable to the people of Nongstoin,” the HYC said while adding that the bye-law of the SLRM project was not suitable for the people of the district.  The HYC was especially concerned about Schedule 4 of the bye-law which dealt with penalties.
The HYC also slammed local MLA D Jyndiang for lending his support to the SLRM project.
Meanwhile, the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner informed that the bye-law was still in the draft stage and yet to be approved. The draft will be taken to the public before being finalized, he added.
