Crime graph on the rise in State

SHILLONG: The crime graph in the State is witnessing a continuous rise since the last three years much to the concern of one and all.Police statistics reveal that in 2012, a total of 2761 cognizable crimes were reported in the State. The crime graph witnessed another increase in 2013 when a total of 3468 cognizable crimes were reported in the State.In 2014, the crime rate in the State went a notch higher with 3983 cognizable crimes being reported in the State.Last year, the State witnessed a massive jump in crime graph and altogether 4406 cognizable crimes    were reported. As per the police statistics, theft is considered to be most common crime as 820 theft cases were reported last year followed by cases of abduction and kidnapping. Last year, 93 rape cases were also reported in the State besides 149 murder cases.
