SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has expressed concern over the statement of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma that he is keen to privatize Mawluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL).
“This move on the part of. Mukul Sangma goes to show that the Congress Government was intentionally holding back the MCCL from reaching its full potential with an eye to sell it to a private company one day”, a statement issued by NPP spokesperson and legislator James Sangma said on Sunday.
According to NPP, the blame for the poor performance  of the MCCL has unnecessarily gone to the employees who are now being forcibly made to opt for VRS.
The NPP while condemning the move by the Chief Minister, opposed any plan in future to privatise MCCL.  “The NPP believes that the health of MCCL will improve provided that the Government gives more time and attention to the working of the plant in a bid to increase production and reduce costs”, the statement said.
