KHADC panel to examine NOC to Wahkaji road

SHILLONG: The issue of the Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Mawthabah road refuses to die down as it  found a place at the KHADC session on Monday, HDPDP MDC from Mylliem constituency Teilinia Thangkhiew asked  Executive Member (EM) in-charge Land & Market Hadrian Lyngdoh whether the NOC for the road project has been issued, to which Lyngdoh replied in the negative.
The issuance of NOC is the lookout of the KHADC, the EM in charge said, while adding that the  delay in the issuance of NOC will be examined and the Executive Committee (EC) has constituted a committee to examine the matter before arriving at any decision  as  there is  conflicting views on the project with some supporting , while others opposing the project.
On being queried further by Thangkhiew whether public hearing has been organized for locals to have a platform to air their grievances, Lyngdoh stated that no public hearings were organized till date.
He further added, “During an inspection by the committee, the people wanted to know whether the road will facilitate uranium mining. In this connection, we have sought the clarification from the Ministry of Road & Transport (MoRTH) but we have not received any reply till date. The EC will discuss the findings of the committee. “
During the spot inspection it was discovered that the roads are in dilapidated condition, the KHADC executive committee said.
Thangkhiew asked  whether a diversion of the road to a different route will lead to the issuance of NOC at the earliest to which KHADC CEM P N Syiem replied that the matter rests with the MoRTH which  sanctioned the project.
