SHILLONG: The construction of a Gurdwara (place of worship of the Sikhs) at Iew Mawlong (Them motor) came under scanner on the second day of the KHADC’s Summer Session here on Tuesday.
Moving a motion in this regard, HSPDP MDC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem termed the construction as illegal and wondered as to how the permission was obtained for bringing up the structure in the area that falls under the jurisdiction of Mylliem Syiemship.
Syiem alleged that the concerned people did not obtain NOC from the District Council for constructing the place of worship.
“In lieu of the place of worship, a vendor’s market can be established in the area with an aim to generate revenue for the District Council,” he said adding that the Hima Mylliem should cancel the land documents of the violators who “obtained the papers by flouting the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act”.
Taking part in the motion, KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum called for collective responsibility of all members when it comes to important issues.
On the other hand, HSPDP’s Mylliem MDC, Teilinia Thangkhiew called for a joint inspection of the structure to examine the matter.
“The area is suitable for construction of a market complex. The inspection should be done at the earliest,” she said
In reply, KHADC CEM PN Syiem said, “We will convene a meeting with the Hima Mylliem to come clear on the documents before the EC.”
