JOWAI: Hundreds of students, who emerged successful in the SSLC and HSLC examinations held this year, took to the streets here on Wednesday to seek admission in the Kiang Nangbah Government College (KNGC) which has been struggling to accommodate them due to want of infrastructure.
To put pressure on the college authority and the State Government to grant admission to the left out pupils, the Kiang Nangbah Students’ Union along with over 1500 students marched with banners and placards demanding admission and fulfillment of other pending demands for improvement of the college.
The march started from the college campus and proceeded to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office before heading towards the residence of Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, RC Laloo. The NEHU Students Union also joined the peace rally.  Student leaders also met the Deputy Commissioner in his office chamber and the informed them that the Government was very much concerned about the admission issue.
Speaking to media persons here, the Deputy Commissioner informed that in a meeting held recently, the government discussed the issue of admission not only in Kiang Nangbah Government College but in Government Boys’ and Government Girls’ Higher Secondary schools where the classrooms were small and could not accommodate unlimited number of students. He asked the student leaders to furnish their demands in writing by Friday.
