Not in favour of joining NEDA: Ardent Basaiawmoit
SHILLONG: While the major non- Congress parties in the state, UDP and NPP joined the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance, the oldest regional party HSPDP stressed the need of forming a pan-regional alliance in the Northeast minus the Congress and the BJP.
HSPDP president Ardent Basaiawmoit said on Monday that at the moment, the party is not in favour of joining NEDA.
He also said that no invitation was sent to the party to attend the meeting of NEDA or join the group.
“We would like to have a pan- regional forum in the Northeast minus Congress and BJP to ensure that there is resurgence of regional parties”, Basaiawmoit said.
To a question on the 2018 Assembly polls, the HSPDP leader said that at the moment, the party is not in favour of any pre-poll alliance, while adding that it is in favour of post-poll alliance.
“At the moment, considering the upcoming 2018 Assembly polls, our focus is to strengthen the support-base of the party across the state”, the HSPDP leader said.
He is also not in favour of merger of all the regional parties since he feels that even after the unification of the regional parties, there will be formation of new regional parties as it happened in past.
