SHILLONG: Aadhaar is not mandatory for availing LPG subsidy with an official of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Saturday clarifying that the SMS in this regard was not meant for Meghalaya  and Assam where Aadhaar has not been fully implemented.
Reacting to a news item appeared in The Shillong Times on Saturday, the IOC field officer for Meghalaya Manish Kumar said that the SMS regarding submission of Aadhaar card was from the IOC’s head office in  Mumbai which was sent to all mobile phone numbers registered with the LPG distributors all over the country.
“The SMS was centrally sent without segregating the Northeast, hence there was confusion”, the IOC official added.
Meanwhile, another SMS received by the LPG consumers on Saturday said,” Please ignore earlier SMS of Aadhaar submission received by you”.
Earlier on June 30, the letter of  K.M. Mahesh, Deputy Secretary (LPG), Union ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas addressed to the Director, Marketing (IOC), Mumbai had exempted Assam and Meghalaya from Aadhaar submission which otherwise is applicable to the rest of the country with effect from July 1 this year.
