SHILLONG: Following the death of trainee nurse Iahunlang Lyngdoh in New Delhi, Supreme Court lawyer Daniel Stone Lyngdoh, who is camping in the national capital, has lodged a written complaint with Delhi police on the alleged negligence on the part of hostel authorities which resulted in her death.
Iahunlang, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) from Jaiaw, undergoing training in Delhi, died after she reportedly fell from the terrace of her hostel building on Tuesday night.
According to the lawyer, the incident took place when Iahunlang, an inmate of Lady Reading Health School, Delhi, was walking on the terrace of the hostel at around 6 PM on July 12.
“She suddenly fell into a deep narrow pit after a crack developed on the surface of the floor where she was standing. As a result, she sustained grievous injuries and became unconscious. Her colleague Mstyngkai Dohling and one Suresh (Hostel warden) immediately tried to pull her out from the pit. However, they noticed that the pit was extremely deep and they could see Iahunlang lying at the bottom of the pit motionless,” the lawyer said.
Later, she was taken in an ambulance to a hospital for treatment. However, her condition remained critical, and subsequently she succumbed to her injuries.
The relatives of the deceased reached Delhi on Wednesday evening.
Postmortem was carried out on Thursday in the presence of MLP Commandant in Delhi, Francis Kharshiing, SC lawyer Daniel Stone Lyngdoh and others. Her body will be brought to Shillong on Friday morning from Delhi.
